ARUSHA: FOLLOWING an impressive perfomance at the Uganda Open, top golfers from Arusha are gearing up for the Tanzania Ladies Open, set to take place in the city from September 13-15 this year.
The event is scheduled to be held at the Arusha Gymkhana Club Golf Course and will feature competitors from various countries on a 54-hole course.
The tournament will see participation from some of Tanzania’s best female golfers, including Madina Idd, Neema Olomi and Aalaa Somji from Arusha, as well as Hawa Wanyeche from Dar es Salaam.
These players recently excelled at the Uganda Ladies Golf Open, with Madina Idd emerging as the overall winner.
The competition attracted players from Ghana, Korea, Tanzania and the host, Uganda.
“Participants from Tanzania also dominated the top four slots at the Ugandan Golf event,” said Madina.
Aalaa Somji, a self-trained golfer who finished fifth overall at the Uganda Open, emphasised the need for greater focus and professional support for Tanzanian players.

Supported by Tanfoam Limited, a lead ing mattress manufacturer in East Africa, Somji also plans to participate in the Kenya Ladies Open next, aiming to gain more experience.
Kassim Somji, Chairperson of Arusha Gymkhana Club, announced plans to honour local players who excelled at the Uganda Open.
“We are encouraging more women to engage in golf, as they have great potential,” he stated.
On his part the Vice Chairperson of the Tanzania Golf Union (TGU), Prudence Kaijage praised the golfers for their international achievements and expressed optimism for continued success
