Egyptian Trade Delegation Eyes Growth in Tanzanian Market

DAR ES SALAAM: A delegation of Egyptian businesses is set to visit Tanzania from February 1 to 6, 2025, as part of efforts to strengthen trade relations and expand Egypt’s export market in the country.

The trade mission, organized by the Export Council for Chemical Industries and Fertilizers in collaboration with the Export Council for Building Materials, Refractories, and Metallurgical Industries, will feature 23 leading Egyptian companies.

Eng. Khaled Abou El Makarem, Chairman of the Export Council for Chemical Industries and Fertilizers, said Tanzania presents significant opportunities for Egyptian exporters, particularly in sectors such as plastics and rubber, fertilizers, pesticides, various chemicals, detergents, diapers, tissue paper, petrochemical materials, pipes, water purification materials, and glass products.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Export Council for Building Materials, Refractories, and Metallurgical Industries, Mr. Ahmed Hafez, highlighted Tanzania’s booming construction industry as a key market for Egyptian firms.

He noted that participating companies specialize in iron and steel, aluminum, marble and granite, ceramics, insulation materials, and gypsum products, which align with Tanzania’s ongoing infrastructure projects.

The Executive Director of the Export Council for Chemical Industries and Fertilizers, Mr. Mohamed Mageed, said Egypt’s exports to Tanzania have recorded significant growth, with chemical and building material products accounting for 19 percent of total Egyptian exports to the Tanzanian market in 2024.

On his part, the Acting Executive Director of the Export Council for Building Materials, Refractories, and Metallurgical Industries, Mr. Ahmed Abdel Fattah, said the trade mission is part of Egypt’s broader strategy to expand exports to high-growth African markets, particularly Tanzania.

He added that the delegation’s programme has been carefully structured to maximize business opportunities, with B2B meetings scheduled for February 4, 2025.

Mr. Yehia El Menshawi, Business Development and International Cooperation Manager at the Chemicals and Fertilizers Export Council, noted that the mission has been coordinated with the Egyptian Commercial Office in Tanzania, led by Mr. Mohamed Attia.

He said extensive preparations had been made over the past month to ensure successful business engagements between Egyptian and Tanzanian companies.

Trade Missions and Promotion Officer at the Export Council for Building Materials, Mr. Omar Mansour, said the visit will showcase the quality and competitiveness of Egyptian products in the Tanzanian market.

He noted that Tanzanian businesses are looking for high-quality products at competitive prices, and Egyptian firms are well-positioned to meet this demand.

Key Egyptian exports to Tanzania include chemical products, paints, inks, fillers, plastics, fertilizers, detergents, industrial chemicals, glassware, carpets, and tiles. The building materials sector exports cement, ceramics, stones, gypsum materials, lime, iron and steel products, and glass.

The trade mission underscores Egypt’s commitment to strengthening economic ties with Tanzania, exploring new trade and investment opportunities, and ensuring sustainable growth for Egyptian exports in African markets.
