EACOP project provides jobs to 420 residents in Geita
GEITA: OVER 420 residents have secured unskilled jobs through the construction of the Mbogwe Pumping Station (PS4), being implemented under the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project.
The jobs are among the benefits arising from the strategic project, with the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) saying about 80 per cent of opportunities generated by the project have benefited Tanzanians through employment, training and participation of local people in various project activities.
TPDC Director of Planning and Investment, Derick Moshi, made the remarks during an inspection tour of the construction of PS4 in Mbogwe District, Geita Region, where he assessed progress of the facility and its contribution to the surrounding community.
Mr Moshi said the project had also provided training opportunities to local residents through the Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) and the Small Industries Development Organisation (SIDO), enabling beneficiaries to acquire practical skills and experience required to participate in major strategic projects.

“This project has continued to create opportunities for Tanzanians, not only through employment, but also through training that enables young people to acquire the skills and experience needed to participate in major strategic projects,” Moshi said.
He said the skills development component was important in ensuring that local communities gained lasting benefits from the project beyond temporary employment opportunities, particularly by improving their capacity to participate in technical and entrepreneurial activities.
Moshi also expressed satisfaction with the pace of construction of PS4, saying the project had reached 88 per cent completion and was expected to be completed by October 2026.
He said implementation of the project had also placed emphasis on engaging communities living around the project through employment opportunities, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives and improvement of social infrastructure, including roads and water services.
