Dr Yonazi orders speedy construction of VPO building

DODOMA: PERMANENT Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliament and Coordination), Dr Jim Yonazi has urged the National Service economic wing (SUMAJKT) to speed up construction of Vice President’s Office building in the Mtumba government city in Dodoma Region.
Dr Yonazi made the directive on Monday when he inspected the development of the building.
He asked the Office of the Vice President to closely supervise the construction so that the building is completed on time without comprising standards.
“We have faith in SUMA JKT and we must show that even local companies, especially public ones, have the ability to build and we don’t expect to see you doing work below standards. We want to see good work,” he emphasized.
In line with this, the Permanent Secretary encouraged the company to observe safety at the workplace particularly for the workers, including by giving them protective gears and education to protect themselves against accidents that may occur at the construction site.
On his part, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Union) Office of the Vice President, Mr Abdallah Hassan Mitawi, said the construction of the building was delayed by approximately 83 days.
He said the client who is the Office of the Vice President, instructed them to submit a work plan on how they can compensate for the delayed days.
However, he said, they will continue to supervise them closely to ensure that the construction work of the building worth 18.8 bn/- is completed with the required quality.
The contract for the construction of the building under consultant the National Housing Corporation (NHC) was signed on 13 October 2021 in Dodoma and is expected to be completed in November 2023.
