Dr Samia receives three global tourism awards Tanzania won in 2025

ZANZIBAR: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has received three major international tourism awards won by Tanzania at the 2025 World Travel Awards.
In a ceremony held at the Tunguu State House in Zanzibar, the awards were presented to the Head of State by the Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr Ashatu Kijaji.
Of the three, the most prestigious award, World’s Leading Safari Destination, was conferred at the World Travel Awards Grand Finals 2025 convened in the Kingdom of Bahrain on the 6th of December, 2025.

Other contestants in the category were Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
During the awards, the Serengeti National Park was named World’s Leading National Park in the year 2025, emerging ahead of internationally best-known protected areas such as Kruger National Park of South Africa and the United States’ Yellowstone National Park.

Moreover, Tanzania also won Africa’s Leading Destination in 2025 during the World Travel Award Awards and Indian Ocean Gala ceremony that was held on June 28, 2025, in Dar es Salaam after competing with several top tourism destinations across the African continent.
In another development, Zanzibar has also won Africa’s Best Corporate Retreat Destination in December 2025.

Receiving the awards, President Samia commended institutions and professionals in the tourism and conservation sector for safeguarding the nation’s attractions and enhancing Tanzania’s standing in international tourism.
According to the Head of State, the achievement reflects Tanzania natural endowment, sustained conservation efforts and strategic promotion of tourism products.
“The country’s diverse landscape, abundant wildlife, waterbodies, and peaceful and hospitable people continue to attract visitors worldwide,” she stated.
