Dr Samia officially opens ministry, institutional buildings and key roads at the new government city

DODOMA: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has officially inaugurated government ministry and institutional buildings, asphalt roads and key infrastructure at the Government City in Mtumba, Dodoma, marking a major milestone in Tanzania’s efforts to consolidate government operations in the country’s capital.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony in Mtumba, President Samia said the development of the Government City was part of the country’s long-term vision of establishing Dodoma as the administrative centre of Tanzania and bringing government services closer to citizens.
She said the decision to relocate the government headquarters to Dodoma was informed by the region’s central geographical location, which makes it accessible to citizens from different parts of the country.
The President said the government had continued investing in the city through the construction of permanent multi-storey office buildings, modern road networks and supporting infrastructure to accommodate ministries and government institutions.
President Samia emphasised that the project was financed through domestic resources, describing it as an important demonstration of the country’s capacity to invest in its own development.
She further highlighted the role of modern technology in the new government buildings, saying integrated digital systems would improve coordination among government institutions, simplify administrative processes and reduce bureaucracy in public service delivery.
The systems are expected to facilitate information sharing across government institutions, reducing the need for citizens to submit the same information repeatedly to different public offices.
President Samia also called for proper maintenance of the newly constructed buildings, infrastructure and surrounding environment, directing relevant authorities to protect green spaces and maintain cleanliness to preserve the city’s appearance.
She directed the responsible ministries and institutions to ensure effective implementation of the Dodoma City Master Plan for 2019–2032, warning against unplanned construction and encroachment on areas designated for public services, road reserves and open spaces.
She also called for improved provision of essential services, including reliable electricity, clean water, healthcare, education and road infrastructure, noting that Dodoma’s development must reflect its status as Tanzania’s national capital.

Recognising the importance of private sector participation, the President directed the Ministry responsible for Planning and Investment, in collaboration with other relevant institutions, to strengthen efforts to attract investors and encourage public-private partnerships in developing Dodoma.
She noted that the expansion of the Government City was already creating wider economic opportunities, with increased construction of residential buildings, commercial properties and social service facilities by both public and private sector investors.
President Samia urged public servants working in the newly inaugurated offices to demonstrate greater commitment, efficiency and professionalism in serving citizens.
The Government City project forms part of Tanzania’s broader efforts to establish Dodoma as a modern administrative capital, following the implementation of the decision to relocate government operations from Dar es Salaam.
The inauguration was attended by the President of the Republic of Angola, alongside other government leaders, officials and invited guests.
