Dr Samia in Luanda for official opening of the Mwalimu Nyerere Hospital

DAR ES SALAAM: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has, today, July 31, 2026, departed for Angola, for a two-day working visit at the invitation of Angolan President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço.

During her tour of Luanda, President Samia and her host are expected to officiate the inauguration of a referral hospital named after Tanzania’s Founding Father, the late Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere. The ceremony will also be attended by members of Nyerere’s family, led by Mama Maria Nyerere.

In addition to the inauguration, President Samia will hold bilateral talks with President Lourenço to discuss ways of strengthening cooperation between Tanzania and Angola, as well as other issues of mutual interest.

As part of her itinerary, President Samia will also attend a fundraising gala dinner organised by the African First Ladies, aimed at supporting social and economic empowerment programmes for women and youth across the continent.

The visit underscores the longstanding diplomatic and fraternal ties between Tanzania and Angola, forged during Africa’s liberation struggles, as the two countries continue to deepen cooperation across various sectors of development.
