Dr Samia agrees to take care of the abandoned baby girl

DODOMA: The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, has officially welcomed a newborn baby girl who was abandoned in Nzega town, Tabora Region, and received her at the State House in Chamwino, Dodoma.

The baby, named Grace Samia Suluhu, was found on January 17, 2026, near the Kasulu guesthouse in Nzega town.

After being rescued, she was taken to a hospital for medical examination and continued care while authorities made unsuccessful attempts to locate her mother.

The child was handed over to President Samia by the Nzega District Commissioner, Naitapwaki Tukai, who said the district authorities, in collaboration with the Police, ensured that the baby received healthcare and protection from the moment she was found.
