Dr Salim’s digital archive to be launched today

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA, Dar es Salaam PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu is set to preside over the inauguration of the Dr. Salim Ahmed Salim Archives at Julius Nyerere International Conference Center (JNICC) in Dar es Salaam today.

Dr. Salim is an eminent international diplomat, previously held the esteemed positions of the fifth Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania and the eighth Secretary-General of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) from 1989 to 2001.

The event is expected to be attended by the President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi.

The guest list also includes current and former government leaders, esteemed development partners, as well as representatives from the private sector, academia, and civil society organisations.

“Other guests will include current and former government leaders, development partners, as well as representatives from the private sector, academia, and civil society,” the statement added.

The archive, (www.salimahmedsalim.com), collects videos and images and text documents (such as speeches, notes, and academic papers) of Dr. Salim.

“It offers unique insights into his journey in public service and his role in international diplomacy and the African liberation movements,” it added.

It also covers the broader role African countries played in geopolitics from the 1960s through to the early 2000s.
The archive was prepared by Dr. Salim’s family in collaboration with the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania as well as friends.

Highlighting the moments that shaped Dr. Salim’s life, and more importantly, in his own words, it aims to enrich the history of Tanzania and Africa.

The materials in the archive will appeal to those who want to understand the role that Tanzania and other African countries played in global history and international diplomacy. Participation in the event will be by invitation only.
