Dr Ndumbaro: Why we should value, preserve our culture

Songea, Ruvuma: THE Minister for, Arts, Culture and Sports, Dr Damas Ndumbaro, has urged Tanzanians to value and cherish their culture, describing it as the pillar that keeps the nation ‘alive.’

Officiating the 3rd National Cultural Festival at Majimaji Stadium in Songea, Ruvuma, on Friday, Dr Ndumbaro emphasized that culture is vital for the country’s livelihood and should be passed on to future generations.

Quoting former President Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, the minister said: “A nation that has no culture is a dead nation.

We must keep our nation alive by embracing and preserving our culture, norms, and values at all costs, and we must teach our children and youth.”

The minister also stressed that human rights should not be used as an excuse to introduce foreign cultures that could jeopardize the country’s peace and harmony.

“As much as human rights are important and crucial to all societies, they should not be used to bring chaos,” he said.
