Dr Mwinyi swears in Dr Maryam as the Director General in the Isles Health Ministry

ZANZIBAR: PRESIDENT of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has sworn in Dr Maryam Seif Hemed as the new Director General of the Ministry of Health following her appointment to the position.
The swearing-in ceremony was held today, August 11, 2026, at the State House in Zanzibar, where Dr Maryam took the official oath of office and formally assumed her new responsibilities.
The ceremony was attended by Zanzibar’s Second Vice President, Hemed Suleiman Abdulla; Chief Justice of Zanzibar, Khamis Ramadhan Abdalla; Attorney General of Zanzibar, Dr. Mwinyi Talib Haji; and Secretary of the Revolutionary Council and Chief Secretary, Mansura Mosi Kassim.

Other senior officials from the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar also attended the ceremony, including heads of the defence and security institutions, religious leaders and other invited guests.
The appointment and swearing-in are expected to enable Dr. Maryam to formally assume her leadership responsibilities at the Ministry of Health and contribute to the implementation of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar’s plans and strategies aimed at improving healthcare services for the public.
