DAR ES SALAAM: The new operator at Dar es Salaam port, DP Word has been directed to speed up an online system harmonization to port workers and clearing agencies in carrying out cargo clearance activities with the aim of speeding up customer services.
The directive was made by Nahson Sigalla, the Director of Economic regulation of the Tanzania Shipping Agencies Cooperation (TASAC).
He said this in Dar es Salaam on Monday when he accompanied the deputy permanent secretary of the ministry of transport Dr Ally Possi during the tour to see handing over operations processes to the new operator.
“TASAC directs DP World to speed up an online system harmonization and sensitization to Dar es Salaam port workers, customers and relevant government bodies to speed up operations services for more income,” Said Sigalla,
He added that with the incoming of the new port operator, Dar es Salaam port was expected to handle more cargoes in a timely manner, and hence, this needs quicker actions in making sure that online systems for cargo clearance was conversant among workers of the Tanzania Port Authority (TPA), Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) and other stakeholders for promoting business within Eastern and Southern African countries.
On the other hand, Mr Sigalla explained that DP World has already met all regulatory requirements per the country’s rules and regulation, but TASAC would still do time to time inspection to assure that all is being carried out as it is required.

On his side, Dar es Salaam Port Director Mr Mrisho Mrisho said that the country’s largest port has already handled a total of 19.6 million tons of cargoes in the 2023/2024 fiscal year and hence, it is in a good position of meeting or even surpassing 22 million tons which is the set target
“All is going well, it is anticipated that more cargo will be handled as system harmonization exercise is going on well,” The Dar es Salaam port Director insisted.
Earlier, Dr Possi said that his yesterday visitation was aiming to learn on how handing over activities was being carried out and if it went per stipulated time for attainment of needed efficiency.
The deputy Permanent secretary said that such initiatives were complemented by identifying and working with various stakeholders to meet needed value and grow the country’s economy.
