Dodoma wins investors for a large-scale steel manufacturing plant in Nala area

DODOMA: ENABLING investment conditions established by the government have attracted investors who plan to construct a large-scale steel manufacturing plant in Nala area, Dodoma City.

The statement was made today, June 15, 2026, by Minister for Minerals Anthony Mavunde after meeting and holding discussions with investors from A1 Iron & Steel Tanzania Ltd at his office in Dodoma.

Mavunde said one of the government’s key priorities in the mining sector is value addition to minerals within the country. He noted that the government is placing strong emphasis on ensuring Tanzania moves away from exporting raw minerals and instead increases their value through domestic industrial processing.

He stated that the investment project is estimated to cost approximately 600bn/- and will use raw iron as the primary input for producing various steel products, including roofing sheets, binding wire for rebars, reinforcing mesh, and nails.

The minister commended the investment, saying it aligns with the national goal of achieving self-sufficiency in steel production and related products. He added that the project is expected to drive industrial transformation, enhance value addition, and reduce costs for local consumers.
