DODOMA: DODOMA Jiji Head Coach Mecky Maxime has described his team’s hard-fought 3-2 victory over Tanzania Prisons in the Mainland Premier League as a psychological battle, following the emotional toll of a recent bus accident.
The match played at Jamhuri Stadium in Dodoma on Tuesday, saw the hosts secure three crucial points despite a difficult start.
Maxime acknowledged that his players were still grappling with the aftermath of the February 10th accident at Nangurukuru, which occurred as the team travelled from Ruangwa to Somanga in Lindi.
“We faced a tough situation because many of our players were not mentally prepared for the game, as they were still recovering psychologically from the accident, but thanks to God, we managed to overcome the trauma and we are grateful for this win.” ,” Maxime said.
With the victory, Dodoma Jiji climbed to seventh place in the league standings, amassing 23 points from 19 matches, with a record of six wins, five draws and eight losses.

Meanwhile, Tanzania Prisons Assistant Coach Benjamin Asukile acknowledged the difficulties his team has encountered this season, emphasising the evolving nature of the squad.
“Every generation of Prisons comes with its times. Our team’s legacy is built on resilience, but each generation faces unique challenges. I keep reminding the players to never move from our team’s core values of fighting spirit,” Asukile said.
Tanzania Prisons continue to struggle, sitting on 14th place with just 17 points from 20 matches. Their record now stands at four wins, five draws and 11 losses.
As the league progresses, Dodoma Jiji will aim to build on their momentum, while Tanzania Prisons will seek to turn their season around and climb out of the relegation zone.
