LINDI: SEVEN Dodoma Jiji FC players injured in a bus accident between Somanga and Nangurukuru in Lindi region on the way to Dar es Salaam have been discharged from Nangurukuru Health Centre.
The team was travelling from Ruangwa after a 2-2 draw against Namungo FC when their bus overturned twice and plunged into the Matandu River near Nangurukuru at approximately 10 a.m.
Fortunately, the injuries sustained were minor and the team’s medical staff provided immediate first aid. Speaking via phone, Dodoma Jiji’s Head Coach, Mecky Maxime, confirmed that all seven injured players had been treated and discharged from the Nangurukuru Health Centre.
“We were waiting for our seven players who were hospitalised here in Nangurukuru, but they have now been discharged and we are starting our journey back to Dodoma,” Maxime stated.
“It was a terrible accident, but we thank God that we did not suffer major injuries, apart from those who sustained cuts from the shattered glass. Even they have been discharged and we are heading home,” he added.
The club’s spokesperson, Moses Mgunga, also noted that no serious injuries occurred, other than minor cuts from the broken glass.
In the wake of the accident, Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) President Wallace Karia led the football fraternity to console Dodoma Jiji.
“We stand with you during this difficult time and we wish you all a speedy recovery,” Karia said in a message to the injured players. He expressed his hope for a swift recovery so they could soon return to their football duties.
