DHL committed to zero carbon emission by 2050

DAR ES SALAAM: DHL Express, which is the largest logistical company in the world, has expressed commitment to zero carbon emission come 2050 in a bid to operate in a leaner environment.

Speaking during the CEO Breakfast Round Table hosted by DHL, the Regional Director for Southern and Eastern Africa, Ms Fatima Sullivan among other things pointed out that this was among the company’s priorities.

“Our planes operate all over the world to deliver cargo and they emit a lot of carbon. We are working to ensure that this comes to an end come 2050,” she told the CEOs from different sectors.

She further noted that there are various studies and tests being done so far on electric planes that will not emit carbon. “It is quite an extensive study that will take time for we all know how the aviation sector is complex and sensitive.

Ms Fatima also underscored DHL’s commitment to the green agenda through which the institution will work together with locals to ensure environmental conservation. “We plan to involve ourselves in different environmental conservation projects that will see us deliver our services even better.

On the business environment in Tanzania, she told the CEOs that Tanzania has great potential considering that it is one of the five fastest growing countries in Africa and is a key player in the region hence a strategic business point.

She was quick to highlight the significance of SMEs and how they play an important role in DHL’s business hence they will continue to develop them by building more capacity for them and ensuring they are formalized and can easily operate in and out of Tanzania.

“We have a product know as SME 360, through which we will ensure that these SMEs that range from among others financial to trading institutions are well looked after,” she said.

The DHL Country Manager, Humphrey Pule said they were delighted to host the CEO Breakfast Roundtable as it has given both DHL and their stakeholders a lot of insights on the business environment and how to together tackle some of the challenges that affect business in Tanzania among others including infrastructure and regulatory restrictions.

“We look forward to hosting more of these forums in the future as they are important to business,” he said.
The event brought together top CEOs and some of DHLs partners who operate in and out of Tanzania.
