DEPUTY National Assembly Speaker Mussa Zungu has encouraged men suffering from an inguinal hernia to go for surgery in hospitals and stop associating the disease to witchcraft.
“In the past people were afraid of undergoing operation, this is a normal disease and it is treatable. People were associating it with witchcraft. Such belief is outdated,’ Mr Zungu stated in Dar es Salaam over the weekend.

“I congratulate you (Jalaram) for your efforts of giving to the community. This is how to support President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan who always prefers to help people in need. You would see this gesture during holy festivities when she donates food items to the needy, especially the orphans,” he noted.
Mr Kishor Modi, a trustee, said every after three months the Trust was supporting patients suffering from the disease.
“For the past 15 years we have helped over 500 patients who were not able to afford paying for surgery,” Mr Modi stated.
On his part, Doctor Ally Gereka, from Hafford Hospital, hailed the support which he said was meant to help people and solve the problem of the disease which has become rampant in the country.
He said their hospital started carrying out operation for the past 15 years, helping many patients suffering from the disease.
“I commend the Trust because the number of people in need of surgery was still huge,” he stated.
Mr Juma Mbarouk, one of the beneficiaries from Dar es Salaam, said the support was commendable since they had no money to cover costs for the surgery.
