Dejan vows to sacrifice for Simba

AFTER opening his goal account in the NBC Premier League, Simba striker Dejan Georgijevic has vowed to sacrifice himself to help his side score more goals and win many matches.

The Serbian striker netted the second goal that enabled Simba to seal  a 2-0 win over Kagera Sugar at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam over the weekend and the victory placed Simba at the helm of the 16-team standings.

It was the second successive victory for the Msimbazi Street Reds in the Premier League and have so far managed to claim two clean sheets  while scoring five goals in the process.

Zambian import Moses Phiri is currently the team’s leading goalscorer after scoring two goals while the rest have been contributed by Clatous Chama, Augustine Okrah and Georgijevic.

Up next, Simba entertain KMC at the same venue on September 7th, their third home match in a row before travelling to face Tanzania Prisons and Mbeya City at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya.

“I am delighted to score my first goal in the league and it is for the fans. I had a lot of messages from fans who wanted to see me score and I want to assure them that I will commit myself  100 per cent  to ensure I score more goals,” said the Serbian striker.

On his part, Simba Head Coach Zoran Manojlovic urged his players to work hard on finishing saying they are able to create many scoring opportunities but lack efficiency when it comes to netting.

“Today (Saturday) we had many scoring chances almost 50 opportunities but scored only two goals which is not good. If we play like this in the Champions League, then it will be difficult to get goals,” he said.

He also highlighted that Georgijevic’s goal is going to help him boost his scoring confidence and that he played well on the day hence people should expect a lot from him.

His counterpart for Kagera Sugar Francis Baraza conceded the defeat saying Simba were better than them hence they now focus to do well in their upcoming league matches lined up for them.

It was the second back to back defeat for Kagera Sugar in Dar es Salaam after succumbing to a 2-1 loss to Azam in their league opener at Azam Complex in the city.

Their next game will be against Geita Gold to be played at a neutral venue after Geita Gold’s league hosting arena Nyankumbu Stadium was slapped with a suspension by the Club Licensing Committee of the Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB).

Meanwhile, the league has been paused to pave way for Taifa Stars to engage in Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers as they face Uganda in a two-legged match as such, normal flow of fixtures will resume on September 6th.
