DC Wella calls for higher revenue collection
TABORA: TABORA Municipal Council has been urged to accelerate local revenue collection to speed up the implementation of development projects across all wards.
Tabora District Commissioner, Ms Upendo Wella issued the directive while addressing experts, executive officers, councillors, party leaders, representatives of institutions and security agencies.
She said although the government continues to channel substantial funds to councils for development projects, local authorities must strengthen their own-source revenue collection instead of relying solely on central government allocations.
“Council revenue is crucial because it helps fast-track development projects and ensures initiatives launched in every ward are completed,” Ms Wella said.
She said delays in some projects in villages, streets and wards were partly caused by limited budgets, adding that stronger revenue collection would help prevent projects from stalling.

“I want us to increase the pace of revenue collection in our council to accelerate development. Every public servant must stand at their post and perform their duties properly,” she said.
The District Commissioner also directed experts, executive officers and councillors to prioritise environmental cleanliness, saying she would inspect different parts of the municipality to assess compliance.
“President Samia Suluhu Hassan has expressed concern over poor sanitation in towns across the country. I want Tabora Municipality to become an example,” she said.
She further urged the council and residents to prepare for the October-December rains forecast by the Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) to minimise the impact of possible heavy rainfall.
