DAR ES SALAAM: SIMBA head coach, Fadlu Davids, commended his team’s perfect start in the CAF Confederation Cup Group A opener after they secured a 1-0 victory over Bravos do Maquis at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday.

In a post-match interview, Davids underscored his team’s focus on results, stating, “Our priority is not just to play attractive football, but to earn the points. Winning matches is our ultimate goal.”

The victory gave Simba three crucial points, placing them at the top of Group A, level on points with Algeria’s CS Constantine, who also won 1-0 against CS Sfaxien in Rades, Tunisia. It was Jean Ahoua’s firsthalf penalty, awarded after handball in the 27th minute.

Despite continued pressure, including several close attempts by Steven Mukwala and a missed penalty by Bravos’ Emmanuel Edmond, Simba could not extend their lead.

Bravos pushed for an equaliser, but Simba’s solid defence, led by Shomari Kapombe and Mohamed Hussein, held firm.

Davids also singled out goalkeeper Moussa Camara for his standout performance, particularly his penalty save in the second half.

“Moussa’s save was pivotal and I am pleased with how he remained calm under pressure,” said Davids.

Bravos do Maquis head coach, Pedro Neto, acknowledged the challenging conditions during the first half, with the intense heat and sun affecting his team’s performance.

“The first half was difficult due to the weather, but we regrouped after the break. Unfortunately, luck was not on our side, especially with the missed penalty,” Neto explained.

Simba’s goalkeeper, Camara, expressed satisfaction with the win but remained focused on the challenges ahead.

“It was a good match against a strong Angolan side. I am happy with the team’s performance, and everyone stood firm,” Camara said.
