Dar’s Birdi defends his Mkwawa Rally title

IRINGA: DAR ES SALAAM driver Manveer Birdi and his navigator Mameet Singh in a Mitsubishi Evo 9, capped off a memorable weekend with victory in the Mkwawa Rally of Iringa over the weekend.

The victory hands the crew the leadership of the Tanzania National Rally besides defending his last year’s title

Manveer led from the word go and managed to shrug off stiff opposition from Gurpal Sandhu of Arusha and Dharam Pandya from Dar es Salaam.

“It was a super job to do winning the event and reviving the race for the championship,” said Birdi

Manveer asserted his dominance in the event, edging Arusha challenger, Gurpal Sandhu, to clinch victory by a split second.

Birdi won the event after clocking the best time of the event with 1 hour,15 minutes and 54 seconds.

Gurpal, who finished second overall, clocked 1 hour, 16 minutes, and 47 seconds in a Mitsubishi Evo X.

Dharam Pandya, who is making a comeback, finished third overall after spending 1:17:49 to finish the two-day event.

The host Hamid Mbatta finished third in Subaru Impreza, spending 2:05:45 en route

The fifth position was taken by Waleed Nahdi from Morogoro who clocked 2:36:41 in a Subaru Impreza N11.
