Dark Fire-Cured tobacco price jumps 28.6pc

TABORA: THE price of Dark FireCured tobacco (DFC) has increased by 28.6 per cent for the 2026/27 marketing season, rising from an average of 1.40 US dollars per kilogramme last season to 1.80 US dollars per kilogramme.

The Tanzania Tobacco Board (TTB) said the increase is good news for tobacco farmers, particularly those in Ruvuma Region and is expected to boost farmers’ incomes while encouraging higher production.

TTB Director General, Mr Stanley Mnozya urged farmers to take advantage of the improved prices by increasing production and maintaining high-quality tobacco to maximise their earnings.

“Farmers should seize this opportunity by producing quality tobacco and increasing productivity so they can benefit more from the improved prices,” he said.

Mr Mnozya said higher prices should also strengthen the competitiveness of Tanzanian tobacco in the international market.

He urged farmers to follow good agricultural practices, use recommended farm inputs and adhere to guidance from agricultural experts to sustain quality production.

The director general also commended stakeholders in the tobacco sector, including tobacco-buying companies in Ruvuma Region, for cooperating in setting prices for the new marketing season and ensuring the 2025/26 season concluded peacefully.

He called on all stakeholders to maintain their collaboration to support the continued growth of the tobacco sector and ensure farmers benefit from the improved prices through higher productivity and better-quality tobacco.
