Dar takes rare pause for historic summit

DAR ES SALAAM: THE bustling city of Dar es Salaam took a rare pause yesterday for the opening of the Africa Energy Summit.

The city is playing host to a two-day historic energy summit that attracted leaders from across Africa and beyond, all focused on advancing the mission of universal electricity access.

In the early morning, the streets were quieter than usual, with cars carrying distinguished participants heading toward the Julius Nyerere International Conference Centre (JNICC), a venue for the summit.

Here, the spotlight was on Mission 300, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at connecting 300 million people to electricity by 2030.

With security heightened throughout the city, the first day of the summit brought together over 50 ministers of finance and energy, more than 40 heads of international organisations and over 1,000 participants from across the globe.

The gathering provided a platform for leaders to share their strategies for accelerating electricity connectivity and promoting clean cooking across the continent.

As discussions took place, local entrepreneurs seized the opportunity to showcase businesses that celebrated Tanzania’s traditional culture, including local attire.

Posters promoting the ambitious Mission 300 initiative adorned various parts of the city, adding to the event’s vibrant presence.

The summit, which began yesterday, will conclude today with a high-level gathering of Heads of State and Government, as well as development partners
