TANZANIA is shining in Africa in the accountancy and auditing profession as per international standards.
This was revealed yesterday in Dar es Salam by the Executive Director of the National Board of Accountancy and Auditing (NBAA), Pius Maneno, when speaking at the 50th Anniversary of the board.
The anniversary celebration started last month and is expected to reach its climax in November by staging various activities.
Mr Maneno said among the achievements of the board is international recognition where some countries use Tanzania as a centre of excellence in the field and send their officials to learn in Tanzania about accountancy and auditing practices.
“In Africa, only Tanzania and Nigeria are using the International Public Sector Accounting Standards,” Mr Maneno, who is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), said.
The country is a member of the International Federation of Accountancy (IFAC) and the Pan African Federation of Accountancy (PAFA).
He said because of its competence in accountancy and auditing, Tanzania has signed a five years MoU with Mozambique to train its officials about good conduct in accountancy and auditing.
“We have entered into an agreement to train them because they appreciated what we are doing in this field and they want to be like us, also Malawi and Zambia have asked to be trained.
Also, he said in the 50th years anniversary, (NBAA), will conduct various activities including a competition where institutions, district councils, companies, departments and agencies that will manage to prepare good financial reports will be awarded.
In its 50 years, 26,000 accountants have passed NBAA examinations and among them, 12,000 are CPA holders while registering 450 firms.
