Dar opens submission for Nyerere Creative Writing Award
DAR ES SALAAM: PROFESSOR Penina Mlama, Chair of the National Committee for the Mwalimu Nyerere National Creative Writing Award, announced today, August 13, 2025, the submission period for the prestigious literary competition will commence on August 15, 2025, and conclude on November 30, 2025.
The announcement was made at the offices of the Tanzania Institute of Education (TET), where Professor Mlama emphasized that enhancements to the submission system have been implemented to address previous logistical and procedural challenges. Many entries were previously disqualified for failing to meet established guidelines and procedures.
“We urge writers to adhere to all the required criteria: general guidelines applicable across all four categories, as well as specific criteria unique to each category. Only manuscripts that comply fully will be accepted,” Professor Mlama stated. All relevant criteria and submission procedures are available on TET’s official website at www.tie.go.tz.
In her remarks, TET’s Director General, Dr. Aneth Komba, confirmed that there will be three winners per category, each receiving a prize, along with a media tour designed to promote their work through various press outlets.
Dr. Komba also called on entrants to uphold originality in their submissions and warned against plagiarism, noting that the system in place is capable of detecting non-original work.
