Dar-Moro ready for InterClub golf battle

DAR ES SALAAM: ALL is set as all three golf clubs have already confirmed their participation at the CRDB Bank Coast Zone InterClub Golf Competition.
The national-level competition is scheduled to tee off at the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) Lugalo Golf Club course of Dar es Salaam on March 9th this year.
The competition set to be back to life after going dull for several years, will see three coast zone clubs named Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC), Morogoro Gymkhana Club and hosts Lugalo battle it out for the top honour according to Lugalo communication officer Selemani Semunyu.
Semunyu said in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the course is in good condition and is ready to host the games.
He said the competition among others aims to strengthen friendship and cooperation among the trio clubs.
Japhet Masai, a Lugalo captain in his part lauded CRDB Bank for bankrolling the tournament. He said this is the second time the bank supports them after sponsoring last year’s club-level event at the same course.
Masai also thanked Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) and Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) for believing in them and giving tasks to revive and organise the same.
He was relieved as the event also got a good response from clubs that said they would compete in the match play, stroke play and batter ball mode of play.
Masai noted that each club will enter its top 20 players who will battle it out on a Matchplay basis, while others will compete at a stroke play battle.
“As host club, we are also prepared to enter a strong team, we will unveil them soon,” Masai stressed. Head of Consumer Banking at CRDB Bank, Stephen Adili said that sports is employment and a source of economic opportunities.
“We expect the participants to use this opportunity for networking and exchanging ideas,” he noted.
He commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for supporting sports development in the country saying her efforts help in bringing positive changes in the area.
He assured that CRDB will continue supporting sports development in line with the President’s efforts.
Last year Dar duo Lugalo and DGC competed with each other at the club friendship tournament which saw Lugalo beat their counterpart by 14 to nine matches to win the title.
