Dar Ladies Open Golf tournament postponed to January 2026

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Ladies Open will now tee off in January 2026, after organisers pushed back the event to attract a wider field and expand sponsorship backing for Tanzania’s premier women’s golf competition.

Originally slated for November 21–23, 2025, the organisers said the postponement will give them more time to enhance logistics, partnerships and player engagement across Tanzania and neighbouring countries.

Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC) Lady Captain Sue van Zyl said the decision, though difficult, was made to ensure the tournament lives up to its growing regional reputation.

“We have decided to postpone the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Ladies Golf Open to 24–25 January 2026.

“This decision was made to allow us to maximise sponsorship opportunities and to ensure a greater number of participants from clubs across the region,” she said.

The Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Ladies Open has long been a highlight of the Tanzanian golfing calendar, drawing both local and regional attention.

The tournament not only celebrates women in golf but also contributes to a noble cause, with proceeds directed toward supporting the Cancer Ward for Kids at Muhimbili National Hospital.

The event promises to be bigger and better, with exciting prize categories for ladies in various handicap groups and men’s subsidiaries categories.

These include Championship Gross Score (Handicap 0–9), Silver Handicap (10–19 Nett Score), and Bronze Handicap (20–36 Nett Score).

Additional recognitions such as Senior Lady Nett Score, Best Nett Day One, Best Nett Day Two, Longest Drive, and Nearest to the Pin will also be awarded.

In total, there will be 15 prizes for ladies across all categories.

Beyond the ladies’ categories, the tournament also welcomes junior and men’s categories, encouraging inclusivity and participation from the broader golfing community.

Van Zyl, noted that Juniors will be able to compete free of charge, a move aimed at promoting youth involvement and the growth of golf in Tanzania.

She stressed that participation fees remain at 30,000/-, while juniors can register for free.

Golfers and fans are encouraged to book their slots early to avoid disappointment, as spaces are expected to fill quickly once registration fully reopens for the new dates.

The DGC course renowned for its lush fairways and challenging course layout, provides the perfect backdrop for competitive yet friendly play.

Lady Captain said that the enrolment link will remain live and will be updated with the new dates.

“Please continue signing up, we’re still looking forward to an exciting turnout,” she added.
