Dar hospital brings smile to infertile couples

DAR ES SALAAM: DESPERATE couples with infertility problems have all the reason to smile as the Kairuki Hospital’s Green IVF (KHGIVF) has managed to implant pregnancy to 40 women in the past two years and all of them successfully gave birth.

The KHGIVF which was launched recently by the President of Zanzibar Dr Hussein Mwinyi is under Kairuki Health Education Network (KHEN).

Speaking in Dar es Salaam over the weekend, the Director of the IVF Centre, Dr Clementina Kairuki, at Bunju A Mianzini during the opening of special training regarding infertility and assisted reproduction said the women underwent insemination at the centre, but many gave birth in various hospitals in the country.

She said some women who underwent insemination at the centre had travelled outside the country to give birth and still the institution was monitoring their health conditions.

“We are monitoring them and the children and their mothers are doing well …Tanzanians have no reason to worry about spending a lot of money to travel to European countries for the service because it is now available here in the country,” she said.

Dr Clementina said during the launch of the centre in 2021 that they will not only provide IVF services, but also provide training to educate Tanzanians and exchange the experience of medical professionals about the best way to implant pregnancy.

“We have started today to provide training to our fellow doctors from various hospitals across the country about pregnancy implantation, so that Tanzania can move forward in the treatment of pregnancy implantation,” she said.

“We want to give the right direction about this treatment so that if there are misconceptions, people will know so that we can reach our colleagues when they arrive at this treatment and we expect at least to do training like this twice a year,” he said.

Dr George Tryphone, who is the Embryologist at (KHGIVF) said that the community still does not have a good understanding about IVF services, so they felt it is important to start providing education to the public, including service providers who are doctors from various hospitals in the country.

Dr Tryphone said the establishment of KHGIVF is a liberation for many Tanzanians who will now get the service in the country at a lower cost.

Director of Kairuki Hospital, Dr Asser Mchomvu said the introduction of IVF services will help to restore smiles to couples who have given up hope of having children.

Dr Mchomvu said that in the past people used to believe that reproductive issues were only for women, but nowadays men accompany their wives to hospitals to find solutions to these problems.
