Dar fair registers 23 countries, historic high

SOME 23 countries have confirmed their willingness to participate at the Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DIFT), the highest number in history, thanks to repacking of exhibition activities.
The fair organiser, Tanzania Trade Development Authority (Tantrade), in recent years, has improved the trade exhibitions in the East and Central Africa and introduced a package that attracted more countries to participate.
Tantrade Director General Ms Latifa Khamis told ‘Daily News’ yesterday that this was the first time since the fair was organized to attract so many countries.
“And, we are still optimistic that more countries will confirm participation, because the fair starts in the next two weeks,” Ms Khamis said, adding that the target was to register 30 countries.
The trade fair, Sabasaba, runs between 28th June and 13th July. Tantrade DG said the introduction of the corporate day for each country and the economic diplomacy policy spices further the fair, thus wooing more countries to participate.
“Having corporate days for each country’s participation in the exhibition attracted more participants,” she said.
The countries that confirmed participation are China, Turkey, India, Singapore, Syria, Japan, Iran, Pakistan and the United Arabs Emirates (UAE).
Others are Zambia, Ethiopia, DRC Congo, Ghana, Korea, Russia, Rwanda, Comoro, Mauritius, Oman, Mozambique, Egypt, Indonesia and Italy.
The head of Tantrade said the first day at the fair will feature Zanzibar Day to be followed by Women CEO’s forum.
The list of other countries days will be issued later. According to Tantrade, the forums will draw members from the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF), Confederation of Tanzania Industries (CTI), Tanzania Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCIA), and Zanzibar Investment Promotion Authority (ZIPA).
Others are the Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC), and the Zanzibar Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (ZCCIA).
Additionally, on the corporate days we will have several activities including the presentation of investment opportunities, trade investment, cultural performance, networking / B2B and panel discussions.
Meanwhile, Ms Khamis said that four provinces from China have confirmed participation up from one last year, which was only Shandong province.
DITF has positioned itself as an international trade promotion platform considered to be the largest of its kind in the Eastern and Central bloc in terms of the number of exhibitors and visitors.
