Dar City crowned BD League champs

DAR City won the men’s Basketball Dar es Salaam League (BDL) 2023 after thrashing the JKT 69-64 in Game 4 on Thursday night. Their win enabled them to dominate the playoff by 3-1 in the best-of-five playoff.

In the women’s category, Vijana Queens dominated the playoffs with 3-0 over JKT Stars. All playoff finals took action at Don Bosco Oysterbay court in Dar es Salaam on Thursday evening.

In-form Dar City outsmarted JKT in a thrilling fourth game in the best-of-five playoff final. Over 15 men’s teams started the league whilst 12 women’s teams also battled it out for the playoff places.

JKT started the final on sound notes taking their first game 68-55 but the champion went on to level the game with an impressive 75-56. Dar City showed determination to win this year’s league since the round-robin stages after they concluded the rout unbeaten.

Basketball Dar es Salaam Association (BD) organised league started in May this year with 15 men’s teams battling it out for the place to represent the region at the National Basketball League (NBL) organised by the Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) later this year.

Vijana Queens won by straight forward 3-0 games after recording a 78-43 on the third playoff final over JKT Stars. They defended their title in style and remained the only undefeated team in this year’s league.

In other early games, Vijana Queens started the showdown well with 57-48 and 73-61. Haleluya Kavalambi, BD technical and competitions Director said they are happy that everything went well and that the competition was even more challenging than last year.
