Dar braces for Mwalimu Nyerere Creative Writing Awards on April 13

DODOMA: MINISTER  for Education, Science and Technology, Professor  Adolf Mkenda has announced that the National Mwalimu Nyerere Creative Writing Awards will be held on April 13, 2026, at the SuperDome in Masaki, Dar es Salaam.

Prof Mkenda announced today, April 8, 2026, while briefing journalists in Dodoma.

He said the event’s guest of honour is expected to be Abdulatif Abdallah, a globally renowned poet based in Germany who previously taught at the University of Dar es Salaam for 15 years.

Meanwhile, awards committee chairperson Professor Penina Mlama said four categories will be contested this year: poetry, novels, children’s literature, and drama.

Now in its fourth edition, the awards aim to promote the Kiswahili language, nurture writing talent, preserve literary works, and boost a culture of reading.
