CUF candidate pledges to revive Tanga’s legacy in education, industry
TANGA: THE Civic United Front (CUF) parliamentary candidate for Tanga Urban constituency, Mr Musa Mbaruk, has vowed to restore the city’s long-lost reputation as a hub of education and industry if voters entrust him with leadership in the forthcoming October General Election.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with the media in Tanga, Mbaruk—who previously represented the constituency under CUF—said education will be at the heart of his agenda.
He recalled his earlier efforts in Parliament to champion the establishment of a university in the region, stressing that the drive remains unfinished. “This is the region where the first government school was established by German colonialists.
It deserves to reclaim its rightful place in education. We need a fully-fledged university or at the very least, a branch of the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM),” he said.
Turning to the industrial sector, Mr Mbaruk said Tanga once thrived as one of the country’s industrial hubs but has since lost momentum.

“Right now, most young people survive through betting or by riding motorcycles (bodaboda) for a living. We must change that by bringing back industries and creating sustainable jobs,” he said.
The candidate also outlined plans to tap into the region’s sporting potential, promising to promote football academies and other sporting programmes that would nurture young talent and open professional pathways.
“Tanga is rich in talent, but little has been done to nurture it. If given the chance, I will fight to ensure sports becomes a serious career option for our youth,” he emphasised.
He urged Tanga residents to rally behind CUF in the October polls, insisting that under his leadership the constituency will regain its lost pride and prosperity.
