CSO week comes to Arusha

MORE than 500 Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) have registered for the CSO week that begins here next week.

Many more are also expected to attend the largest gathering of civil society organizations in Tanzania, Dr Shirley Mushi, the event’s coordinator said on Friday.

According to Dr Mushi, the week-long event which will also be open to the public will bring together CSOs to deliberate on a number of issues including Good governance, Inclusion and Financial resilience.

“We will discuss how building CSOs financial sustainability is an important factor in bringing people’s development and bringing about change,” Dr Mushy disclosed while briefing reporters here.

This year’s theme which is ‘People’s Development, People Stories’ will also a number of activities including CSO-CSO clinics, main plenary session, thematic breakout sessions and community engagement outreach.

According to the Foundation for Civil Society (FCS), the theme allows for critical reflection on the many approaches, systems, and processes used by CSOs to address the development challenges that Tanzanians confront, particularly those that are complex, deep-rooted, and long-standing.

It will also involve a week-long community services such as legal aid clinic, according to Dr Mushi.

“This will be a one of a kind and will showcase the sector’s ever-evolving and innovative approaches as a key stakeholder in development, ’’ said Dr Mushi.

It will kick off with a keynote address that will be delivered by Dr Anthony Mveyange, the Executive Director of the Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR).

The CSO Week is the largest gathering of civil society organizations in Tanzania. The event offers an opportunity to engage with multi-sectoral actors for purposes of enhancing partnerships in the interest of steering the national development agenda forward.

It offers an opportunity to engage in high level deliberative debates and dialogue on Tanzania’s development. Arusha is hosting the event for the first time after it had for years being taking place in Dodoma.
