CRDB Marathon’s raised 5bn/- facilitates treatment of 400 children, 240 pregnant women

DAR ES SALAAM: OVER 5bn/- raised through the CRDB Marathon has been collected and directed towards the healthcare sector, enabling more than 400 children with heart conditions to undergo surgery and providing 240 women with high-risk pregnancies with medical treatment and safe delivery services.

CRDB Bank Chief Executive Officer, Abdulmajid Nsekela, made the statement today, August 16, 2026, while speaking at the CRDB International Marathon event held at Posta Grounds in Kijitonyama, Dar es Salaam.

The event brought together more than 17,000 participants from Tanzania and abroad and was attended by various government leaders. The Guest of Honour was Zanzibar’s Second Vice President, Hemed Suleiman Abdulla.

Nsekela said investment in healthcare is a critical component of efforts to build a strong Tanzanian economy towards 2050, stressing that economic development cannot be measured by financial resources and infrastructure alone without considering the quality of human capital.

“Tanzania’s strong economy in 2050 will not be built on money and infrastructure alone, but on Tanzanians who are healthy, skilled, innovative, talented and capable of creating value. Behind every economic statistic is a human being,” Nsekela said.

He said CRDB Group has decided to continue investing in healthcare, youth, innovation, sports, culture and economic opportunities, recognising that sustainable development requires healthy people with the capacity to participate fully in productive activities.

“CRDB Group has focused on and invested in healthcare, youth, innovation, sports and culture, as well as various economic opportunities, because we cannot build a strong economy without first building healthy, capable and knowledgeable people,” he said.
