CRB imparts contractors with corporate governance skills

MWANZA: CONTRACTORS across Tanzania have been urged to strictly comply with the laws, regulations and procedures governing the construction sector, including properly registering their projects and preventing the misuse of company names by unqualified firms.
The call was made by Registrar of the Contractors Registration Board (CRB), Engineer Rhoben Nkori, during the closing ceremony of a three-day special training on Corporate Governance held over the weekend in Mwanza.
Eng Nkori said the training aimed to equip contractors with the necessary knowledge and skills to execute construction projects efficiently and according to required standards.
“Through this training, I believe you have gained valuable lessons that will assist you in your work. It is essential to foster a culture of continuous learning to enhance your capacity to deliver quality projects,” he said.

He stressed the importance of safeguarding the integrity and reputation of the contracting profession by strictly upholding the law.
“We must not allow anyone to break the law and tarnish the image of this sector. If we observe colleagues violating regulations, it is our responsibility to advise and guide them rather than permit actions that harm the industry,” he added.
Eng Nkori also warned against the practice of some contractors accepting bribes to unlawfully display their company names on project signboards, cautioning that such behaviour damages the profession’s dignity.
He noted that the construction sector is complex and demands professionalism and diligence to ensure projects are delivered with quality, on time and within budget.
Some participants said the training provided a valuable platform to share experiences and exchange knowledge on various construction methods, enabling them to adapt to technological advancements in the industry. The training brought together contractors from different regions across Tanzania.
