Court jails Shelui youth 5 years for knife attack

SINGIDA: IRAMBA District Court has sentenced Gidion Soza ,22, a resident of Mingela-Shelui village in Iramba District, Singida Region, to five years in prison and a 500,000/- fine for injuring Thomas Shamsua ,25, by cutting his right-hand fingers with a knife.
According to the statement from the Singida Police Force, the incident occurred at Mingela village, where Gidion was arrested on September 14, 2024, in Nsusu village and later brought before the Iramba District Court to answer the charges. Gidion denied all the charges against him.

On January 30, 2025, during a court session before magistrate Luzango Omero Khamsin, the court sentenced Gidion to five years in prison and ordered him to pay 500,000/- in compensation to the victim, Thomas Shamsua. The ruling was issued as a warning to others who may engage in violent acts.
The victim’s family expressed satisfaction with the judgment, stating that it would serve as a lesson to the community about the dangers of violence and the importance of avoiding such actions.
