Councillors urged to mobilise farmers

DODOMA: DODOMA City councillors have been urged to mobilise farmers, livestock keepers and fishers in their wards to participate in this year’s Nanenane Exhibition and benefit from modern technologies and knowledge that can boost productivity.

The call was made during a Dodoma City Council meeting on Wednesday, where leaders were encouraged to promote wider public participation in the annual agricultural exhibition.

Addressing the meeting, council leaders said the exhibition offers an important platform for farmers to learn modern agricultural, livestock and fisheries practices, with about 22 countries expected to participate.

Dodoma District Commissioner Alhaj Jabir Shekimweri said the exhibition would expose participants to improved production methods, technologies and innovations capable of transforming agriculture into a more productive and profitable sector.

He commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for the government’s investment in upgrading the Nanenane exhibition grounds, which now feature tarmac roads and permanent exhibition pavilions.

Dodoma City Council continues exploring new economic opportunities to improve residents’ livelihoods, citing apple farming as one of the region’s strategic initiatives.

The initiative, championed by Dodoma Regional Commissioner Rosemary Senyamule, will feature a demonstration apple farm during this year’s exhibition.

He encouraged councillors and residents to visit the demonstration farm to learn how apple cultivation can become a profitable commercial enterprise capable of increasing household incomes.

The annual Nanenane Exhibition brings together farmers, researchers, government institutions, private companies and development partners to showcase innovations and promote investment in agriculture, livestock and fisheries.
