COSTECH gears up for historic conference, exhibition

PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan is expected to be the guest of honour at the Annual National Science Technology and Innovation (STI) Conference and Exhibition, to be held in Dar es Salaam from June 14 to 16 this year.

The conference is specifically organised to enable researchers, scientists and innovators to meet with policy makers to discuss research and innovation outcomes in the country that contribute to policy making and building a nation driven by science, technology and innovation.

This was said on Tuesday by the Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH), Director General, Dr Amos Nungu, when officially introducing the National Annual Science, Technology and Innovation Conference and Exhibition – (STICE) to reporters in Dar es Salaam.

Dr Nungu said at the conference they will also advise the Government and its agencies to review the scientific findings and ongoing technological advancements taking place in the country.

“We have invited President Samia to be our guest of honour, where researchers, innovators and pioneers will have the opportunity to receive policy direction from national leaders and the minister responsible,” Dr Nungu said.

The conference, he further noted, is also aimed at enabling researchers, creators and local innovators to meet with their foreign counterparts to build business and research relationships.

Dr Nungu said another objective of the conference is to enable technology and innovation to be showcased to the public and also innovators and researchers to have the opportunity to be awarded by the guest of honour as well as to be nationally recognised.

He revealed the theme of the conference is ‘Science, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development’.

“This conference will feature a variety of topics including national preparedness for the fourth industrial revolution, science, technology and innovation for a green economy, resilient and inclusive economy.

“Others are innovation for people’s development, contribution of indigenous knowledge to the science development, open science, and technology and innovation in Tanzania,” Dr Nungu said.

He said the STICE conference is a strategy for COSTECH to carry out its primary mission of collecting, maintaining, processing and disseminating information as per establishment Act directed.
