THE National Women’s team ‘Twiga Stars’ Head Coach Bakari Shime has conveyed his delight in his team’s performance following their hefty 3-0 win over Comoros in the ongoing COSAFA Women’s Cup tournament at NMU Madibaz Stadium in Port Elizabeth.
Twiga Stars banked their victory through Donisia Minja in the 13th minute and Enekia Lunyamila, who scored a brace in the 41st and 52nd minutes of the game.
Lunyamila’s brace gave her the player of the match award.
The victory has secured Tanzania three crucial points and made them lead of group C. At the same venue, Botswana will meet with Malawi from the same group to challenge the group leadership.
After the encounter, the Head Coach, Shime, hailed his players’ performance.
“I want to congratulate our girls on their today’s performance. The match was tough; we met a strong opponent who played well and gave us a hard time in the first 10-15 minutes of the first half. However, we saw their weakness and took advantage of their mistakes.”
Shime explained that it was an excellent experience to play against Comoros, a team they had not played with before. He added such an experience improves the quality of his team.
Following their next match against Malawi, he remarked that they will have another strategy as Comoros are different from Malawi, and each side has its strength.
“We played against Comoros; we knew nothing about them…the next game will be against Malawi. I hope we will change our game strategy according to our next opponent.
We are here to compete and perform well in each game. We will automatically win the title if we do well in each game.”
The Comoro Head Coach Pascal Koutala said he is proud of their ladies’ performance despite losing against title defenders, Twiga Stars.
“Beyond today’s defeat, we have learned a lot. I am proud of my girls. I will try to motivate them again for the next match to do their best as usual.”
Despite the defeat, the coach said they are confident they will advance to the next round as they are aiming high.
