Coach praises Stars spirit

MOROCCO: TAIFA Stars Head Coach, Hemed Suleiman has expressed satisfaction in the way his charges performed in the game against Morocco, despite losing 2-0 in Morocco.

Speaking after the match,  Suleiman put the defeat into perspective, insisting the loss was not surprising given the gulf in class between the two sides. “Considering the difference in experience between our players and Morocco’s, conceding two goals is quite normal,” Suleiman stated.

He praised his charges’ resilience and adherence to the game plan.

“We had a solid approach and managed to withstand their pressure for large portions of the match. I appreciate my players for sticking to what we had prepared,” he added.

Taifa Stars started brightly, frustrating their highly-rated opponents in the first half. But as expected, Morocco intensified their attack after the break.

“We managed the first half well, but we knew the second half would be extremely tough. Morocco’s experience and quality made the difference,” Suleiman acknowledged.

Despite a determined performance, Suleiman’s Taifa Stars were unable to match the quality and experience of the Atlas Lions, who once again asserted their dominance over Tanzania.

The breakthrough came in the 51st minute when Real Sociedad’s defender Nayef Aguerd rose highest to head in a well-delivered corner.

Just seven minutes later, Tanzania’s challenge became even steeper. Ibrahim Hamad was penalised for a handball inside the box, allowing Real Madrid’s Brahim Díaz to step up and calmly send Taifa Stars goalkeeper, Yakuob Suleiman the wrong way, sealing Morocco’s victory.

Going by the results, Tanzania’s hopes of reaching the FIFA World Cup finals were dashed at Stade d’Honneur in Oujda on Tuesday.

The result extends Morocco’s superiority over Tanzania in head-tohead encounters. Since 2010, the two teams have met six times, with Morocco winning five and Taifa Stars managing just one victory.

More significantly, Morocco top Group E with 15 points from five matches, securing direct qualification for next year’s World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

For Tanzania, the campaign might end in disappointment.

Stars remain in third place with six points, trailing second-placed Niger on goal difference. While both teams have the same points, Niger hold a +2 goal difference compared to Tanzania’s -2.
