Citizens key to Vision 2050 success
DODOMA: DEPUTY Minister in the President’s Office (Planning and Investment), Dr Pius Chaya, has underscored the critical role of every Tanzanian in implementing the National Development Vision 2050, which aims to transform the country into a one-trillion-dollar economy.
Delivering a lecture at the Institute of Rural Development Planning (IRDP) over the weekend, Dr Chaya said the success of the long-term blueprint depends on practical execution from the village to national level.

He said the government, through the National Planning Commission, has established a robust monitoring and evaluation framework to track progress and ensure accountability.
Dr Chaya urged scholars to conduct impactful research that addresses real challenges facing citizens, stressing that knowledge must translate into practical solutions rather than remain in academic documents.
He also highlighted government efforts to strengthen linkages between industries, producers and higher learning institutions to ensure graduates meet labour market demands.
The strategy, he said, is being implemented through agreements between the government and the productive sector, particularly manufacturing.
“For institutions to produce graduates ready for the job market, the market itself must clearly define the professionals it needs,” he stressed.
IRDP Rector, Prof Hozen Mayaya, said the institution is committed to producing experts capable of supporting the implementation of Vision 2050.
He noted that students are being equipped with skills to work independently and collaborate with the government in improving investment planning.
Prof Mayaya also highlighted persistent land planning challenges, noting that about 72 per cent of land remains unsurveyed.
