Chinese auto firm opens a branch in Tanzania with BYD vehicles

DAR ES SALAAM: HARMONY Auto, a Chinese company, has officially launched its business branch in Tanzania as part of efforts to support the government’s initiatives in utilizing renewable energy and promoting environmentally friendly transport across Africa.
The launch aims to introduce BYD vehicles to provide eco-friendly transport solutions and is expected to ease access to transportation for the people.
Speaking at the launch, Khatibu Hussein, the company’s sales representative, explained that the BYD Shark 6 cars use Plug-in Hybrid technology, which allows the battery to charge when fuel runs out.
Hussein further clarified that this vehicle can travel over 100 kilometers using only electricity after charging for two hours. For customers using high-speed charging devices (direct current), the battery can be fully charged in just 30 minutes.
This technology is expected to be officially introduced in Tanzania soon, with ongoing private investments being made in the renewable energy sector.
The representative also added that Harmony Auto’s showroom is located on Nyerere Road, near Julius Nyerere International Airport, and offers various Plug-in Hybrid vehicles that use both electricity and fuel. These vehicles present a sustainable solution for communities in need of modern and energy-efficient transport.

The Director of Harmony Auto for the Africa and East Africa region stated that the company already has four branches across Africa—in South Africa, Mozambique, Kenya, and now Tanzania.
He further mentioned that they plan to establish a car manufacturing plant in South Africa and a vehicle assembly center in Tanzania to meet local driving conditions and contribute to the growth of the electric vehicle industry across Africa.
Currently, the vehicles sold by the company are set in the English language system, but plans to introduce a Swahili system are expected to begin soon.
On his part, the Sales Manager stated that the company’s warehouse offers a variety of vehicles, including BYD Shark 6 double-cabin pick-ups, mini SUVs, and luxury cars.
BYD is globally recognized for its advanced battery technology, which is robust and highly safe. This is one of the main reasons the company attracts customers looking for vehicles that use renewable energy.
The launch of this branch in Tanzania marks a significant step in revolutionizing eco-friendly transport and continues to support the government’s efforts in improving transport systems and the use of renewable energy across Africa.
