Chief Chemist sees 21 percent rise in samples’ analysis

DODOMA: The Government Chief Chemist, Dr Fedelice Mafumiko, has announced that the number of samples analyzed by the Chief Chemist’s Laboratory has increased from 155,817 in the 2021/2022 financial year to 188,362 in 2023/2024, reflecting a 21 percent rise.

Speaking to reporters in Dodoma today, Dr. Mafumiko attributed this increase to strong collaboration with government institutions such as the Drug Control and Enforcement Authority (DCEA), the Police Force, the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), and the National Environment Management Council (NEMC). Additionally, he noted that growing public awareness of the importance of scientific investigations has contributed to the rise.

He explained that these achievements have enabled timely delivery of investigation results, thereby contributing to social issues, product safety, public health, and environmental protection.

Dr. Mafumiko also highlighted that these forensic services play a crucial role in criminal justice, poison detection in patients, and the identification of disaster victims’ remains.

Furthermore, he emphasized that forensic investigations have enhanced the safety of industrial products, food, and medicine while ensuring a healthier environment for society.
