CCM vows increased investment in arts, culture

BAGAMOYO: CHAMA cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has committed to enhancing the arts and culture sector over the next five years. This includes upgrading the TASUBA College of Arts, supporting cultural festivals, and equipping artists to utilise modern technology.

During a public rally in Bagamoyo, CCM’s presidential running mate, Emmanuel Nchimbi, stated that if President Samia Suluhu Hassan is elected, they will continue to view the creative industry as a means for economic growth, job creation and national identity.

“Bagamoyo holds a central place in Tanzania’s cultural and historical landscape. In the next five years, we will improve the infrastructure of the TASUBA College of Arts to offer training aligned with international standards,” Nchimbi said.

He noted that CCM is committed to expanding the creative sector by improving access to funding, training and platforms where artists can showcase their work locally and internationally.

“Through President Samia’s policies, many artists have already gained access to training and capital. It’s our goal that every talented young person to have the opportunity to pursue a career through the arts,” he added.

Nchimbi also said the government will continue supporting cultural festivals and preserving Bagamoyo’s heritage sites, aiming to connect tourism and the creative economy.

“We want the world to recognise Bagamoyo as a national centre for arts and heritage. This is where Tanzania’s renewed cultural momentum will begin,” he said.

He further said CCM’s intention to improve working conditions for artists and involve the private sector in investing in film, music and cultural exhibitions, with the goal of increasing the value of Tanzania’s creative outputs.

According to Nchimbi, this plan is part of CCM’s five-year manifesto, which recognises the creative industry as a driver of youth employment and national development, with Bagamoyo continuing to serve as a national hub for training and innovation.
