THE National Audit office of Tanzania (NAOT) and the office of the Controller and Auditor General Zanzibar (OCAGZ) have been advised to strengthen collaboration, so as to combat financial indiscipline and corruption still embedded in public offices.
This call was made by the State Minister, President’s Office (Constitution, Public Service and Good Governance) Mr Haroun Ali Suleiman, when he met the two Controller and Auditor General Charles Kichere and his Zanzibar counterpart, Dr Othman Abbas Ali.
“You should share experience particularly investigating the system of payments because there are still some loopholes for dishonest servants, who tamper with the system to steal money from the government,” Mr Suleiman said.
He explained that CAG’s reports in both Zanzibar and Mainland have been useful in the war against corruption, laziness, and irresponsibility in public offices, particularly in areas of expenditures.
Mr Kichere who earlier on Monday met with Zanzibar President Hussein Mwinyi, said he was in Zanzibar on a mission to strengthen collaboration with OCAGZ,
On his part, Zanzibar’s CAG Dr Ali said there were many areas that they could share experience.
Mr Kichere’s visit to Zanzibar comes just few days after his counterpart in the Isles won praise from President Mwinyi for exposing massive loss or unaccountable public money in different government offices in the 2020/2021 report.
