CAF League: Simba Queens hunt Buffaloes

SIMBA Queens face a decisive fixture in the CAF Women’s Champions League against Green Buffaloes at Stade de Marrakech in Morocco today.

A winning side in today’s duel steps into the knockout stage of the competition where they will be exposed to one game before sailing to the event’s semis.

The country’s envoys head into the match with full confidence after defeating Determine Girls 2-0 in their previous game while the Green Buffaloes suffered a 2-1 loss to AS FAR.

The Queens produced a massive performance in the second half against Determine Girls on Wednesday to score twice courtesy of Opah Clement and Olaiya Barakati to steer their side to a comfortable victory.

It was a good response from the country’s envoys who prior to that suffered a 1-0 loss from AS FAR who have already qualified to the knockout phase of the contest.

“I am thrilled with the win because we wanted it badly otherwise if we had lost, then it could have impossible for us to think of reaching further in the competition.

“In the first half, we created a couple of scoring opportunities but because of pressure among my players, we squandered them.

“At halftime, I told them to be comfortable with the ball and increase efficiency on the target until we managed to get the opening goal before increasing the tally afterwards,” said Simba Queens coach Charles Lukula.

He then disclosed that now, all their hopes is to do better against Green Buffaloes in their last group stage assignment so as to proceed into the next stage.

As it stands in group A, AS FAR lead the pile with six points after sealing a two-match back to back wins followed by Green Buffaloes who have three points while Simba Queens are on third slot with three points as well.

Determine Girls of Liberia have been eliminated from the competition as they sit at the base of the table point-less and win-less hence their next fixture against leaders AS FAR will be of no importance to them.
