CAF commends Tanzania’s preps for AFCON co-hosting saying it perfectly implements its directives

DAR ES SALAAM: THE President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Patrice Motsepe has expressed confidence in Tanzania’s preparations to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), saying directives issued for the tournament preparations are being implemented professionally.

The CAF President made the statement immediately after landing at the Julius Nyerere International Airport earlier on Thursday where he is in the country to inspect progress in preparations for AFCON 2027, which Tanzania will co-host.

Speaking to journalists at the airport, Dr Motsepe said Tanzania has provided strong support for preparations and demonstrated a high level of readiness ahead of the continental tournament.

Dr Motsepe is scheduled to visit Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam as part of his assessment of the country’s readiness for the tournament.

He is also expected to meet government leaders to discuss progress made in preparations and outstanding requirements ahead of the competition.

The CAF president’s visit comes as Tanzania continues preparations to meet the infrastructure and organisational requirements for hosting the continental tournament.

Tanzania is among the three East African countries selected to jointly host AFCON 2027, alongside Kenya and Uganda.

The tournament is expected to provide an opportunity for the region to showcase its sporting infrastructure and strengthen its capacity to host major international competitions.

Motsepe’s inspection will provide an opportunity for CAF to assess progress on key preparations and engage Tanzanian authorities on the remaining stages.

AFCON 2027 will be the first edition of the continental tournament to be jointly hosted by Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.
