Bunge Committee Satisfied with SEQUIP, BOOST projects in Kibaha
THE Parliament’s Education, Sports and Culture Committee has expressed satisfaction with the education projects implemented under the Primary Student Learning Project (BOOST) and the Tanzania Secondary Education Quality Improvement Project (SEQUIP) in Kibaha Town Council, Coast Region.
Committee Chairperson Ms Husna Sekiboko made the remarks on Wednesday following an inspection of the newly constructed Shimbo Secondary School in Mbwate Street, Mkuza Ward and an Adult Education Centre in Kibaha Town Centre.
She confirmed that the funds allocated for these projects were utilised effectively.
The Committee’s one-day tour was accompanied by the Minister for Education, Science and Technology Prof Adolf Mkenda, Deputy Minister Omar Kipanga, Kibaha District Commissioner Mr Nickson Simon and other government officials.
“The government is investing heavily to enhance the education sector, ensuring that our children study in conducive environments.
We are pleased with how the allocated funds for these projects have been used in this Council,” Ms Sekiboko said.
Acting District Executive Director (DED) Ms Leah Lwanji informed the Committee that the Council received a total of 528,998,425 shillings for the construction of Shimbo Secondary School through SEQUIP.
“Prior to the construction of this school, students in this area had to walk long distances to Nyumbu Secondary School.
We are grateful to the government for making this school possible,” she stated.
Minister Prof Adolf Mkenda highlighted that the government is committed to enhancing educational policies to improve performance at all levels.

“Currently, among other initiatives, we are working to shorten primary education from seven to six years.
This is just one of many strategies aimed at keeping pace with global developments in education, science and technology,” he explained.
