MWANZA: THE Mwanza region has been allocated a substantial 16.9 billion/- through two key initiatives: The Basic Education Strengthening Programme (BOOST) and the Secondary Education Quality Improvement Programme (SEQUIP).

This funding is set to significantly improve educational infrastructure in the area.

According to Mwanza Regional Education Officer, Mr. Martin Ikwabi, the allocation is divided as follows: 12.71 billion/- will be used for secondary schools under SEQUIP, while 4.28 billion/- will support primary schools through BOOST.

The funding will be utilized to construct 96 classrooms (48 for primary and 48 for secondary schools), build 42 dormitories for secondary schools, and install 288 toilet facilities across both primary and secondary schools.

Additionally, the funds will facilitate the construction of 15 new schools, including eight secondary schools.

The renovation of four classrooms in primary schools and the construction of ten teachers’ houses in secondary schools are also part of the plan.

Mr. Ikwabi highlighted the distribution of funds to various districts: Buchosa District Council will receive 797 million/-, Ilemela District Council 503 million/-, Kwimba 871.5 million/-, Mwanza City 348.5 million/-, Sengerema 348.5 million/-, and Ukerewe 548.7 million/-.

Specific SEQUIP project allocations include 1.065 billion/- for Buchosa, 965.28 million/- for Misungwi, 348.5 million/- for Mwanza City, 348.5 million/- for Sengerema, and 547.7 million/- for Ukerewe.

Notable projects include the construction of two new schools at Luchili and Nyehunge in Buchosa, the addition of five classrooms and 12 toilets at Kayenze Ndogo Primary School in Ilemela, and various improvements in Kwimba District including new classrooms and toilets at multiple primary schools.

In Magu, two classrooms and six toilets will be constructed at several primary schools.

In Misungwi, the funds will support the construction of classrooms and toilets at Kigogo and Bukumbi Primary Schools, along with a new school at Mabuki.

Sengerema will see new schools at Luchelele and Tabaruka, and Ukerewe will benefit
