Boxing referees, judges urged to uphold core principles

DAR ES SALAAM: BOXING referees and judges have been urged to uphold the core principles they learned during training, keeping themselves apart from those who continue to participate in the sport without the required professionalism.

Speaking at a recent workshop aimed at enhancing skills of boxing officials, Neema Msitha, the Executive Secretary of the National Sports Council (BMT), stressed the importance of adhering to the standards established in the training.

She stressed that boxing officiating requires a deep understanding of the sport’s rules, as well as fairness and impartiality. The training equipped referees and judges with skills to make informed decisions in the ring and ensure a level playing field for all competitors.

The workshop attracted numerous referees and judges from across the nation and highlighted the need for ongoing development and education.

It was made clear that as the sport evolves, so too must the knowledge and skills of those entrusted with officiating duties. “Referees and judges play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of the sport,” Msitha noted.

“It’s not enough to simply be involved in boxing; you must be committed to upholding the highest standards.

By applying the techniques and principles learned in training, you can ensure the sport thrives in a fair and professional environment.

” Boxing in Tanzania has a rich history and is one of the country’s most popular and competitive sports.

Over the years, Tanzania has produced many talented boxers who have gained recognition both locally and internationally.

The sport has grown steadily, with a strong presence at both amateur and professional levels. As boxing continues to gain popularity, it is essential for those overseeing the sport to set themselves apart from those who may still approach it with a less serious attitude.

With proper training and a commitment to excellence, referees and judges can make a lasting impact on the sport and help elevate it to new heights.
